Richard T. Sands, Senior Consultant

Richard
Sands is a senior consultant at SSI where he serves as a results-oriented training
and development professional with extensive experience in regulatory compliance
training and competency-based training programs. His consulting often involves
manufacturing, training and quality issues in the pharmaceutical industry. Dick's
clients include several major corporations as well as emerging companies in the
pharmaceutical industry.
A few highlights of Dick's contributions during his career at Merck include
managing the development, presentation and documentation of all regulatory training
as well as developing and implementing a training program, instructor guide
and participant manual on the capital management process for engineering personnel.
Dick has also conducted assessments of regulatory compliance training needs
at a number of U.S, European and African pharmaceutical and bulk pharmaceutical
facilities.
While at Merck, Dick introduced the concept of "competency-based"
training as the methodology of choice for technical and job skills training
to ensure the integrity of the product and to be proactive in meeting government
regulations. This concept has been adopted as a divisional initiative for all
sites worldwide.
Dick holds a Masters in Education from Pennsylvania State University and a
B.S. in Industrial Management from LaSalle University. He is a member of the
American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), the Parenteral Drug Association
(PDA) and a lifetime member of the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Training
and Education Association.
Dick assists a variety of clients in significant projects such as assessing
current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) training to assure compliance, guiding
documentation of training for a major pharmaceutical company and developing
methodologies to provide cGMP training programs and related information to multi-site
companies.
Dick is very effective at assignments involving training of trainers, mentoring
and coaching of supervisors and managers, as well as general problem solving
in the pharmaceutical environment.
